Mount Hermon has been used by God to make a difference for Jesus Christ for more than 100 years, and now over hundreds of miles!
A few years ago, Mount Hermon representatives journeyed all the way to Colorado to recruit new summer staff. This was a great opportunity to stop in at Trinity Presbyterian Church, in the city of Arvada. Trinity regularly brings a number of kids to Ponderosa for summer camp. They travel by Amtrak all the way from Colorado to Santa Cruz, where they spend a week that their youth director sees as integral to the growth of her kids.
While visiting at the church, we heard an amazing story of how God has used Ponderosa to make a significant difference in lives more than 1200 miles away from Mount Hermon.
The Ponderosa-bound kids were sent on a scavenger hunt to help raise money for their camp fund. The hunt took them all over the greater Denver area. While looking for a specific item at a nearby supermarket, they met a couple of high-school-aged employees who asked what the kids were up to. The surprised kids said that they were raising money so that they could go to camp in California. The two employees, who were going to be finished with work in a few minutes, asked if they could join in the fun.
Not only did these two high-schoolers join the hunt – they also began attending Trinity Church. They even joined the youth group that summer for a week at Ponderosa.
It was here, more than 1200 miles from home, where these students responded to the call of Christ. Two years later, these young men are growing in their faith and are some of the most consistent leaders in the youth group at Trinity Church.
God used a scavenger hunt in Arvada, Colorado, to lead two young men to camp in California – but ultimately, He used it to lead them to Himself.
