The Mount Hermon Redwood Canopy Tours

Safety, Sustainability & Stewardship

At Mount Hermon we love to introduce our guests to the wonder and majesty of our special redwood forest ecosystem. “Knowledge breeds appreciation,” so we know the more familiar people become with this unique environment the more “invested” they will be in preserving it with us. In keeping with our history of responsible oversight of this grand property, we have carefully designed and programmed the Mount Hermon Redwoods Canopy Tour experience for the utmost in safety, sustainability and stewardship.

Safety
We chose Bonsai Design for their unique creativity and careful attention to detail. The course was built to the national standards developed by the Association for Challenge Course Technology. Top quality certified U.S.-made cables and hardware are utilized throughout. Daily visual checks are made, complimenting periodic and annual inspections. Prior to leading their first tour, our staff completes nearly 50 hours of intense training in all aspects of guiding, safety and emergency procedures. In this way we optimize the learning and enjoyment for every participant.

Sustainability

Sustainably harvested redwood lumber is used for all platforms and bridges. The zip corridors are thoughtfully placed to preclude forest impact. Each cable termination ingeniously “hugs” the tree in a way that allows for the unimpeded growth of the tree. Our platforms are supported with minimal penetrations, and adjust with the growth of the tree, and all hardware and structures have been finished to blend with the surroundings. Tour prices are calculated to support continuous maintenance, quality programs and well-trained staff, while remaining easily affordable.

Stewardship
For 103 years Mount Hermon has demonstrated a wise use of our resources. This project wonderfully exemplifies our habit of providing for the future while respecting both property and people. The course runs contiguous with upper Bean Creek Canyon, which itself remains an untouched preserve of beauty and solitude. Mount Hermon is a unique property where many factors have been carefully balanced in its development and growth. By exposing people to the Redwood forest in a unique and engaging way, we are leading others to regard themselves as stewards of this remarkable asset. The canopy tour is an integral part of Mount Hermon’s mission; it’s another way we see “lives transformed.”
