League & Division Breakdown

This league is open to students in the 2nd through 8th Grade and
is intended to teach the fundamentals of basketball and provide a
positive recreation experience for all. The league will begin on
Saturday, January 7, 2012. Games start day of open and run until March.
Each team will play approximately 8 games. Referees will be provided. A draft day will be held on
December 8, 2011 for skill assessment and team placement for 6th-8th
grade boys and girls. All players will be notified of their first game
by their team coach. League rules will be discussed at the Coaches Meeting and copies will be handed out for all particiapants.
- 2nd & 3rd Grade Co-Ed Division: This division
will play 3 on 3 to teach players about spacing and easily instruct the
elementary skills of basketball. Each team should consist of no more
than six players. This division will use a junior size ball and hoops
will be lowered to 9ft. The first part of each session will consist of a
short coaching period to cover basic concepts with the team, and then
they will transition to play 3 on 3 for six minute quarters. No
official score will be kept and all fouls will result in out of bounds
possesion in order to allow most play-time. This is an instructional
recreational league which emphasizes fun, fundamentals, and
sportsmanship.
- 4th & 5th Grade Co-Ed Division: This division
will play 4 on 4 to create room and allow players to gain a sense of
spacing on the court. This will also enable coaches to have more
teaching moments to cover basic skills and instruct proper dribbling,
passing, and shooting technique. This division will use a 28.5 size
ball and hoops will be set at 10ft. The teams will play seven minute
quarters, and have time before playing to run drills or basketball
exercises to focus on and execute while playing. This is an
instructional recreational league which emphasizes fun, fundamentals,
and sportsmanship.
- 6th & 7th Grade Boys Division; 6th & 7th Grade Girls Division: Player evaluation is highly suggested on draft day (players not
present during draft will be placed on a team). This division will play
full court 5 on 5 for eight minute quarters. Practice times will be
available/assigned to each team.
- 8th Grade Boys Division; 8th Grade Girls Division: Player evaluation is highly suggested on draft day (players not
present during draft will be placed on a team). This is a competitive 5
on 5 division that is designed for the higher skilled youth intending
to have fun while still developing skills at a challenging level. Teams
will play eight minute quarters.
Team Building Day (optional)

The Team Building program day is an intentional way to transform the way
your team approaches challenges, communicates, and works toward common
goals. With years of experience, our facilitators will guide your team
through high ropes activities to bring your team together and help
develop trust and dependence on one another.
Your team will be assigned a specific time on the TB day to arrive
and they will be guided through the Discovery Grove Challenge Course.
This course offers an opportunity to work together 35ft in the air, as
they complete both individual and partner challenges. Set in the serene
beauty of the Coast Redwood forest, our high ropes course is a game
changer in the development of your team’s dynamic and togetherness.
